Dr Swinney is one of Australia’s leading experts in small animal internal medicine and has a career spanning more than 30 years. As an accomplished speaker, private practice physician and consultant for general practitioners and specialists alike, Dr Swinney brings a unique blend of intellectual know how, real-life practical experience and an acclaimed teaching ability to any forum that he is involved in.
Graham graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Honours) from the University of Sydney in 1987. After graduation, he taught Small Animal Medicine at Massey University, New Zealand. In 1991, Graham returned to Australia to begin his Residency in Small Animal Medicine at the University of Queensland. Two years later, he was appointed Registrar, then promoted to Senior Registrar in Small Animal Medicine at the University of Sydney. In 1998, he was awarded a Fellowship at the Australia and New Zealand College of Veterinary Science (FANZCVS) specialising in Canine Medicine.
From 1999 to 2005, Graham taught at the Washington State University, USA as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Small Animal Internal Medicine Department.
Graham practiced for four years as a private specialist at the Veterinary Specialist Centre in North Ryde. Towards the end of 2009, he joined the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital as a Canine Medicine Specialist and Hospital Director.
In 2011, Graham joined IDEXX Laboratories as an Internal Medicine Consultant. He has a special interest in different aspects of small animal internal medicine; including endocrinology, gastroenterology and nephrology.
His authored publications have appeared in journals such as Australian Veterinary Journal, Australian Veterinary Practitioner and Veterinary Surgery. Graham is a member of the Executive Committee of the Australian Small Animal Veterinary Association (ASAVA) and an invited speaker to conferences. He is the recipient of the John Holt Distinguished Service Award from the ASAVA and a Westcott
Clinical Teaching Award from Washington State University.
