Helsa graduated from the University of Sydney in 2007, following 2 years in small animal general practice, she returned and completed her rotating internship in 2010. Following this, she stayed on for another 4 years overseeing the running of both the general practice and emergency service.

Helsa’s journey into small animal medicine specialty started in 2015 where she undertook her residency at the University of Melbourne for the next 3 years. Alongside her clinical training, Helsa completed a double masters, one of which was looking into the virulence factors of E.coli in canine urinary tract infections which is where her interest in this area began.

In 2019, Helsa became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine which allowed for specialist registration here in Australia. After spending many years in academia, a change was needed and Helsa currently is part of the internal medicine service at Animal Referral Hospital in Melbourne.
