Yvette Spry

RHN

My name is Yvette Spry I started working in veterinary clinics in 1997 whilst still at school. I gained a traineeship in 1999 upon completion of year 12 to undertake my animal studies and vet nursing certificates. I graduated from TAFE in 2002, winning top Medical Nursing Student of the Year. After a few years in practice I undertook a Certificate in Training and Assessment once I realised I love teaching. Later on I also completed a Diploma of Dental Nursing and Diploma of Small Business Management. I have worked in small animal practices in both North Queensland and South Australia. I progressed in my career from Junior Nurse, to Senior Nurse, Head Surgical nurse, Team Leader, Practice Manager and Business Manager. I then went onto pursue a career in teaching vet nursing and animal studies. I taught Veterinary Nursing at TAFE SA for 8 years, and then I worked at Box Hill Institute as a senior educator and Coordinator of Veterinary Nursing, and the Graduate Diploma of Biomechanical Medicine for 3 years. During this time I obtained my Diploma of Vocational Education and training and am currently studying a Bachelor of Adult Education with a specialisation in Vocational Education. I have maintained my vocational currency by liaising with industry and attending PD as often as possible. I have also been on South Australian and Victorian VNCA committees. I now work as the Regional head nurse for Greencross Vets South Australia where my passion for educating others continues to be fulfilled. Surgical nursing is a passion of mine and I have always been very interested in patient warming under anaesthesia.
